Philippine Treasure (GMA-7 Documentary)
Hosted by Mel Tiangco
Reaction:
“History is a
cyclic poem written by time upon the memories of man”. As I watch the documentary of GMA-7 about “Philippine
Treasures” I realized that there are lots of treasures that we Filipino’s have
since ancient times. We didn’t know that there are lots of unrevealing stories
behind the history from a written book than what is really happening during
that time. Through this documentary that I watched, it cleared my mind about
the facts and stories that is true or might be true within the Philippine
history.
I feel happy because we have many artifacts and collections that our
museums have, right from Spanish colonialism down from American colonialism.
One of the parts of the video that I like in the documentary is the ‘Ayala
Museum’, one of the museums here in the Philippines. It shows the different
designs and artifacts such as accessories made from gold which is used by our
ancestors during ancient times.
As the GMA-7 document about
these, it states that our ancestors before the Spanish colonialism are civilized
and rich in natural resources such as minerals like gold. Like the teleserye
“Amaya”, one of the shows in GMA-7. It represents how people lived in the past.
They have a ruler called “Datu” down from the commoner to a slave. The
accessories used in ‘Amaya’ are based from the “Gold of Ancestors”. These are
the gold’s that were collected by the Ayala museum. They said that these are
made during 10th century. They believed that our ancestors know how
to make materials from gold, they know how to process. And because of these, I
was also amazed by the “Golden Mandela”, one of the finest collections of the
museum. It is four kilogram and its designs were really in detailed. So I
thought that those people who lived in ancient times used all the things that surround
them like coconut, shells, etc. to shape the gold. And as the document goes by,
I was shocked that all of those collections were discovered only by a commoner,
his name is Berto Morales. Those artifacts were found in the mountain of
Surigao del Sur. He became rich but it is real about the sayings,” Ginto na,
naging bato pa” because he lost his money after all of it. I realized that
there are no such things that can be bought by money.
The other video that I like was all about the
“Golden Tara”. I was surprised that the
“Golden Tara” from the museum in Chicago was actually came from the
Philippines. There were also other artifacts, they are 7,000 in total. But the
real thing is the Tara that was found in the Philippines was argued to bring it
back in our country from “The Field of Museum of National History” in Chicago.
In my opinion, I also agreed to return it back so that we can see it in our own
bare eyes that these was one of the collections of our history, that these
marks our past and these is one of the reasons why we must be proud of our
country.
These are the few things that I like and marks into my mind while
watching the video. For me, there are many things that we must know and we must
discover about the history of our country. It is true that, “History brought
back the past and remind us the future” because what we have today reflects the
past. So, we should take care and appreciate all those artifacts that was found
and now are displayed in our museums and we must salute our ancestors because
they are the reason why we experience and lived in a best way. We must be proud
that we are a Filipino.
